An outing for food that didnt really satisfy me!

I started off the day, thinking of the Popiah from Joo Chiat after Pornsak recommended it on a TV show. I was drooling after I saw all the blog post about it, saying how food it was. I waited almost a week b4 popping down and was told they only sell the popiahs on weekends. Damm..

I then continue to walk down with an attempt to look for the Bak Kut Teh, ended up with a long walk for almost 15mins searching for it. And we chanced upon Lau Hock Guan Kee Bak Kut Teh (328 Joo Chiat Road). The workers or perhaps the boss, is very friendly. Helped with baby chair when he saw me with my boy, as well as telling us that the food is more than enough when I was ordering. So nice.

The Bak Kut Teh wasn't that much to rave about, peppery soup with loads of Bak Kut served Claypot  style. The stir fry bean sprouts and sambal potato leaves is yummy. Never regretted ordering. As for the Omelette with minced meat, nothing to rave. And finally, the Claypot Sesame Chicken is a must-order dish. I tell you, I would go back for the sesame chicken but not for Bak Kut Teh. Hahah~

Decided to go for kopi, so I tot why not visit the Sinpopo Brand Cafe (458 Joo Chiat Rd), also recommended in Pornsak show. It is a modern cafe which showcase all the old-times food and dessert. I was intrigued and my fire die down very FAST! First, the dessert is overly sweet. Pulot Hitam is not cooked soft, and it is still hard. When feedback, the staff says yes and that it is harder than usual. Will cook it longer. Sign... The Iced Kopi and Kopi is so so sweet. And the Chicken wing is yummy, crispy on outside but I suspect they re-use the oil too long thus the outer skin is very dark. Worse, my iced kopi served in metal cups and had a rusty cover. Definetely no go-back. My comments, overly priced and inexperienced.

And I decided to end my horrible eventful day with my Chow Mien. Yummy!!

3) Once cabbage is soft, dish out and leave aside.

Hi Priscilla, Sometimes I don't mind going back to the restaurant if the workers/boss is friendly and reasonable but the food is so so only. I just don't like those workers/boss who keep asking you for more orders when they know pretty well that you can't finish the food. Thumbs up to your chow mien too. Have a nice weekend with your loved ones!

Hi Ivy,

Yes.. I wld love to go bk to the BKT shop for their sesame oil Chix again... Lovely with a bowl of rice.
But for the Sinpopo, definetely won't. Overly priced, inexperienced staff.. What I don't like is that the staff can replied, 'Yes, the Pulot Hitam is indeed harder than usual, we will cook further b4 serving later'...
Ultimately staff attitudes goes a long way!!
